We as women, especially us black women, have been programmed to settle and build rather than go out and search for what it is that we truly want and deserve in a significant other.
Some men are willing to build but aren’t associating themselves in the right circles to meet women like this and unfortunately some men will pretend that they want to build, but instead just want an easy life and to be spoon fed, do the basic minimum and still expect equal rewards. So you have to be careful when expressing this intention.
I’m at the age (26+) where I date people in their 30s and tbh, you don’t have to be a finished product, but you damn well need to be on the path to something. I’ve worked too hard to get to where I am and I will never put myself in the position to build with someone who was just dreaming. A lot of men want a strong woman until they realise how much levelling up they have to do and some just aren’t mentally capable for the challenge. Partnerships and growth require certain fundamentals and you can’t force these things. You either have it in you to sacrifice and build with your significant other or you don’t. This vision is only for the strong willed.
Personally I’m all for it and would love to build with someone, but I’m also aware of what I deserve, so if the work rate doesn’t match mine and if the energy isn’t reciprocal, then I’m out. I know my value and what I can bring to the table. My question is, why are women of a certain caliber always expected to settle for less and build, isn’t it our right to find someone who matches us and then build with them? Or Why expect to be with someone (male or female) who is the finished project, when you aren’t even there yourself?
